The New Sexual Culture
We observe so many indications that our society is collapsing. There is evidence that Western Culture is in the vice grip of God’s wrath both biblically and experientially. He is actively abandoning us to our own devices. It is most evidently observed in the abyss of sexual depravity.
This collapse of society is needless. God, through Christ, has provided everything that mankind seeks so deeply to acquire. He can aptly provide eternal significance and unconditional security to the very depth of our soul. More on what is the significance and security that God provides at the end of this paper, but first let's look at the reasons why society is collapsing.
First, there is the biblical evidence.
We see that the world system is under the swooning deceit of the devil.
The Bible says that before we were in Christ …
“we once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience. Among these we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, following the desires of body and mind, and so we were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.” (Ephesians 2.2-3)
The Bible also says,
“You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father.” (Jn 8.44)
Further, the Bible tells us,
“And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.” (2 Cor 4.3-4)
Additionally, from 1 John:
“the one who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil.” (3.8)
“We know that we are of God, and that the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.” (5.19)
And every Christian should be familiar with the wrath of God that is described in Romans Chapter One, but most keep saying that it is coming; however, IT IS HERE.
Rom 1.18
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness…
v24 Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them.
V26-29 For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips,
One should notice that the homosexuality mentioned in Romans is not necessarily stating that homosexuality is a sin. It is sin, but Paul is not judging the behavior of homosexuality in this text. Paul is telling us about the sin of rejecting God and suppressing the Truth. The punishment for rejecting Truth is that God gives them over to their evil desires. The actual judgment on this nation IS HOMOSEXUALITY. The emphasis is not the sin of homosexuality. The emphasis is that homosexuality IS GOD’S JUDGMENT. Homosexuality is the "Hammer" of God's judgment.
He has abandoned this nation to its own devices and has sent us away with degrading passions and a depraved mind. THIS IS THE END OF A SOCIETY.
There is something terrible when this takes place. When God abandons us, He includes a “GOODBYE” gift:
2 Thess 2.11-12
“For this reason, God will send upon them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false, in order that they all may be judged who did not believe the truth but took pleasure in wickedness.”
We are thoroughly in this deluding influence as we shall soon address.
How much clearer can it be stated that the wrath of God is that we are abandoned to what we worship?
Read in Psalms and in Job - This is the wrath of God.
Job 8.4
“If your sons sinned against Him, Then He delivered them into the power of their transgression.”
People abandoned by God become crazed and controlled with the very impulses of their inordinate desires. (We see this when the men of Sodom and Gomorrah were struck blind by the angels, yet they were still driven by their craving for homosexual relations.)
PS 81.12
“So, I gave them over to the stubbornness of their heart, to walk in their own devices”
It gets deeper than deep and darker than dark. God Himself turned us over to degrading passions. These passions in Romans Chapter One are a judgment from God and are appetites for the same sex relations.
Psalms 115.8 is extraordinary.
One reflects in their own life the very thing one most admires. One’s whole life is shaped and geared to achieve and acquire what one “worships”. And in so doing, we mirror the desire in our hearts. As the tides would turn, if one craves the opposite sex, then one may become like the opposite sex and mirror what one worships. If one craves the attributes of the opposite sex, then one emulates them. This is the seed of the effeminate male and the masculine female which eventually has led us to the ridiculous term, “transgenderism”.
Generally, under God’s judgment, the male lusts for the female and desires to emulate femininity and the female trends toward masculinity to emulate that which she has been deprived. She can do better than the male.
The woman can see this as a tributary to the original curse from Genesis 3.16 “To the woman He said, … your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.”
The word “desire” means a “desire to control”. It is a struggle between desiring to control and mastering. It is a curse. The woman’s desire would be very much like the desire of sin to master Cain because the same word is used in 4:7, where God says to Cain, “Sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is for you.” The woman would now desire to control her husband, but she would fail because God had ordained that man should lead. But here we are now, in a bizarre loop. The man becomes the effeminate and the woman the masculine.
It is strangely comforting to note that even though the male and female rebel against their created sex, they cannot escape the decrees of God when it comes to male and female roles. One sex will always fall into a feminine or masculine role as decreed by our Creator, regardless of how distorted it may be. Of course, there are some who go outside this boundary but do so at the bequest of demons.
This is a strange relationship whereas the depraved mind and a deluding spirit battle in the abyss of darkness. This is God letting us go.
Becoming what you worship:
Ps 115.8:
Those who make “them” will become like them, everyone who trusts in them.
“Them” are the Idols. They are those things of creation that are worshiped, desired, and imagined. They are those things that either in the long or short stretches of the mind, one fascinates, daydreams, or rehearses. It could be in what one finds identity. The purpose in life is to have them and then find one’s identity in what one possesses. Any time that anything supplants the preeminence of Christ in one’s heart and mind, that thing is an idol.
These idols can be objects to fill an empty soul without Christ. The idols present the illusion of glitter and gold. If not “things to own”, the idols could be the desperate pursuit to have an identity in something, to be something, or to expand what one believes to be a self-authenticating presence in their world. This is what we see in the opening warning of 1 John 2.15 “Do not love the world…”.
Embracing one’s sexual behavior becomes a self-authenticating drive. One’s sexual behavior becomes one’s total identity. It is exactly what happens when God turns us over to our degrading passions. What was once behavior speedily becomes identity.
The church is behind the times when addressing such cultural issues. Too often it has always been the ambulance chaser or the caboose at the rear of the train. In fact, many churches are aiding in the demise of our culture.
In C.S. Lewis’, The Screwtape Letters, the demonic figure Screwtape, says, “One of our greatest allies at present is the church itself.”
Next, as we observe the many indications that our society is collapsing, we will address the issue of how our sexual behavior becomes our total identity.
Second, there is the experiential evidence in the world.
Homosexuality is no longer about behavior in this Western Culture. It is about identity. It is about "Self".
To be truly human one must express their sexuality. If one denies their sexuality, then they are inauthentic. Their sexuality is their identity. The only way to authenticate one’s identity is to be recognized, embraced, and celebrated by society.
Biological sex at birth is no longer the essence of the true self. One is no longer restricted by their birth sex. This is achieved by denying one’s birth sex from their desired gender. For example, though one may have been born male, he chooses the identity of female. What gender once was, feminine and masculine, associated with the sex that one was conceived, is now an identity that one feels they can simply choose or “identify” as. It is a claim that has no rational basis in physical reality. What is more real than their chromosomes, XX and XY, is their belief that they can escape from their biological imprisonment. The psyche rules the physical.
This is why a man can claim that he is a woman born in the wrong body and the culture can calmly accept his claim. This is why a Supreme Court Justice cannot define what is a woman. This is why a “man” can become pregnant…the biological “woman” who identifies as a man can still become pregnant because “he” has a womb. This is also why society is losing the ability to think freely and fluidly. Society is bogged down, unable to respond to simple questions and thoughts in order to not offend the many thousands who are just waiting for a reason to be offended. Society is irreconcilable.
If society does not recognize their sexual identity, then their dignity is harmed. This is the age of the psychologized man. This is the new therapeutic. We are now an emotive society that must not offend the identity of any sexual claim.
Homosexuality is identity, not behavior, and any attempt to deny their claim is a violent act against them.
It is at this point that any response to a remnant of society that refuses to authenticate the identity of one’s sexual identity is justified. Violence against the oppressor is righteous.
2 Tim 3.1-4 tells us that the world, under the wrath of God, will have a predominant character towards those who stand in their way:
But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,
As mentioned above, the world system is following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience. The tool or vehicle that Satan is using today to employ this world system in Western Culture is a movement that has developed over the past few hundred years.
The tool is a modified Marxism without the label “Marxism”. Some may label it as “Cultural Marxism”. This agenda is a revolution in need of an oppressed group. Any sector of society that senses oppression or victimization or claims inequality is the fodder for the movement. None of these claims are true, but the imagery of victimhood is now the king of society. This tool has gathered membership from every sector in society, e.g., Corporations and the strong arm of Government. It has found a place in medical care, entertainment, sports, and has normalized in every home without notice. The imagery that a person can claim that they were born in the wrong body has been normalized and goes without objection. The one who claims the identity of the opposite sex must be held in high honor without refutation. They are courageous and iconic. If one in society resists the claim of one’s identity, then that person is an oppressor and must be silenced – silenced at any cost.
The “victims” who find community in this oppressed class are vast, loud, and expanding. It is effective. It was the feminist movement that evolved into the lesbian movement of the first through fourth wave. It is the ever-evolving civil rights movement and the Black Lives Matter agenda. It is the LGBTQ+ movement which now rules every market and every institution. It is its own kingdom and western culture is its purview. Its army is out to conquer every foundation that resists their authenticity. The traditional concept of gender must be abolished. What groups that claimed to be the oppressed are now the oppressors and the basic freedoms of those who dissent are destroyed.
This movement is a death work. It is anti-cultural and anti-historical. Its fundamental aim is to destroy the nuclear family. The nuclear family is the last holdout for traditional moral values. The family is oppressive and is authoritarian. The family is its own “cellular form of civilized society.” Women are turned into chattels – property – and they need to be freed. Children are stifled to find their own sexual identity. If the family remains, then there can be no authoritarian order because the family is the authoritarian state in miniature. Dismantling and abolishing the nuclear family is essential if liberation into a sexualized society is to be realized. But instead, these realities signify the death of culture rather than the birth pangs of the coming liberated utopia.
The nuclear family stands in the way of universal sexual freedom. The family is the main cause for the repression of civilization. They hold the moral codes that prevent the authentic self.
The key to the dissolution of the nuclear family is through the children. The destruction of the family is through the children and sexual education at the lowest level.
A free society will provide ample room for the sexual gratification of children. Any adult who hinders this development must be severely dealt with. The state will take away the children and “re-home” them into the most progressive, godless households for their liberation. The state will see to it that these children are given hormone blocking injections and medical treatment to change them into the sexual identity that they have been deluded into thinking they can become. Homosexual couples have equal dibs to these children. This is metaphysical murder of the most innocent. It is pagan. The parents will be left as empty nesters or imprisoned. This is already at hand.
Again, the state must be used to coerce families for sexual liberation. The state must have the right to intervene in family matters because the family is the primary opponent of sexual liberation through its cultivation and policing of traditional sexual codes. The state must be used to compel families and punish those who dissent from the sexual liberation being proposed. An arbitrary and subjective definition of the “well-being of the mind” of children is the launch point to attack the family.
Above all, the new sexuality, even above the destruction of the family, is a blood thirsty aim to destroy Christianity. Christianity is repugnant and God is a despot.
With devilish insight, the fight against Christianity could only be fought at the level of the sexual revolution.
An allegory of the magnificent train:
There was once a great designer who engineered a masterful feat. He built a train unequal to any train of its time. It was the most powerful and efficient ever known. A special set of tracks were laid 2300 miles from east to west. On the inauguration of the trains first mission, it rapidly increased to its maximum cruising speed of 68 mph in less than 2 minutes. It pulled 100 cargo cars effortlessly.
It could make the coast-to-coast journey without stopping for fuel in only 38 hours. It traveled into the sunset and sunrise for many months until one day it began to notice the beautiful mountains, valleys, rivers, streams, and lakes. It was haunted relentlessly. Oh, how it wished its designer had laid the tracks a little closer to these wonderful displays of grandeur. It grew more and more agitated as it traversed the flatlands until one day, it noticed the lights and bustle of the large cities and towns. Its resentment and anger grew toward its designer with every mile. It wasn’t until it saw these spectacular vehicles with round rubber wheels that could turn and go in any direction at a whim and displayed the freedom it had grown to envy. It was at that moment that the train decided to be free.
When the moment was ripe, it had calculated that if it could reach 72 mph and apply the brakes at just the right pressure, it could create a chain reaction behind it that would cause its load to promptly bump it just enough to leave the tracks that imprisoned it. Sure enough, at just the right place and just the right moment it set its plan into action. The brakes were applied at 72 mph, and the reaction was swift and effective.
The train became airborne and for those eternal seconds it felt the exhilaration of a freedom it had never known. But as gravity would have it, its velocity and height diminished, and it crashed to the ground. The explosion was great and when the smoke and dust cleared and all came to rest, there lay a heap of mangled metal and wire. Still, as other trains rushed by, they heard from the rusted heap a whimpered echo, “I’m free, I’m free, I'm free”.
If this allegory does not speak for itself, note that our Creator has designed us in glorious splendor. But we became disillusioned at the purpose for which our Creator had designed us. We rebelled and launched ourselves from His care and wrecked our lives, yet we are content to think that we are free.
I stated above that the church always seems to be bringing up the rear.
Christianity is in the struggle for the nature of human selfhood, and we are the sum total of the network of relationships we have with others. We possess a common human nature, but that nature has expressed – and does express – itself differently in different eras and cultures.
The way I see this is that God has superimposed in the Christian a compulsion to recognize His fingerprint (image) in the lives of all mankind. We naturally give credence to our fellow members of humanity, regardless of how distorted His image may be in others. However, the natural tendency to regard others is manipulated into regarding not the image of God in them, but rather the image they have created for themselves – a new and perverse identity – an identity crafted from their own minds.
We are forced to give to them a solemn honor for whatever image or identity they have created for themselves instead of what is reserved for the honor we give to those who reflect the image of God. This respect that Christians cherish for fellow man creates confusion in the church.
They know they ought to acknowledge the image of God in each other, but they don’t know how to do so when the psychologized man has created for himself another image altogether – one that is anti-God. The sad thing is that Christians become paralyzed and yield to the bizarre nature of this predominant, non-transcendent culture. Even the Christian has abandoned the Truth of God’s Word and hasn’t an inkling of how to apply it. So, they just give either active or passive tribute to the insanity of sin. Many churches have become its ally. Churches and Christian institutions yield to the common phraseology of the day, e.g., Same-sex Attraction (SSA), Homophobic, “Gay”. The Christian sector capitulates that SSA is not sin and is even involuntary. This SSA is in a class of its own. It is not sin. They ignore clear biblical precedence that any inordinate desire is sin. It is “Prohibited Attraction”, thus, sinful. It is innate for a man and women to be attracted to one another as it was before the Fall. Any other kind of sexual attraction is after the fall and is sexual immorality.
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery’; but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” (Matt 5.27-28)
It is no less true that when a person looks upon another person of the same sex that they, too, are guilty of adultery.
How to address this culture that is under the wrath of God most directly and correctly.
We must recognize that to this culture, sexual sin, immorality, is not behavior. It is identity - not sin. The actual sin in this culture is not to authenticate one’s identity. Society is sinning when it will not celebrate their sexuality. Society is harming their dignity. Being authentic is to take one’s sexual passions “to the street”. All of society must recognize the individual so that they may be an authentic self. His dignity and identity are authentic when validated by society.
Therefore, a homosexual couple must get a wedding cake from a Christian baker or a wedding bouquet from a Christian florist or have a wedding ceremony at a venue owned by a Christian. Any of these things are available at any time from any other source, but it is the Christian that refuses to acknowledge their dignity. These Christians must be destroyed and ruined in the eye of the public.
Here's the key. Satan’s tool is victimhood. Freedom, equality, and dignity are the moral presuppositions that carry with them imperatives for action. It was the same tool that he used against Eve at the beginning. “God is oppressing you, Eve.” We are in a crisis state of identity, authenticity, and dignity. This is the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience.
Here are two milestones that the Christian must address in the heart and soul of our Western Culture:
God has put into each person the desire to be significant and to be secure. What is significance and what is security?
SIGNIFIANCE:
SIGNIFICANCE is the sense of Eternal Purpose, Everlasting Importance, Abundant Adequacy in whatever one does. Only in the Eternal Christ can one have eternal meaningfulness and lasting impact.
My significance has little to do with my occupation or position in society. My occupation is a means by which God demonstrates through me to a languishing and desperate world that only He can fulfill this identity crisis that seems to consume mankind. In the book of Job, God said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, fearing God and turning away from evil.”. God desires to say the same about every Christian. And He tells the world, “Have you considered my servant, _____?” Our fullness in Christ as our identity must be on display to a world that is under delusion and controlled by degrading passions.
The world will watch you in your occupation and wonder at the depth of abundance you bring with you and the authenticity you enjoy at what you place your hands to do. NO job, no occupation, no recognition of your existence from mankind is meant to authenticate your identity – these things are too small to fill in one’s heart with what only God Himself can fill. Be filled with the Spirit and demonstrate His filling in whatever state you may find yourself. The identity of the Christian is his identity in Christ.
Don’t confuse Identity in CHRIST with significance in your job, your sex, your status or even any recognition of your existence.
SECURITY:
SECURITY is the sense of LOVE – Unconditional and Consistently Expressed, Permanent Acceptance. There is no wrong that I could ever do to shake my identity in Christ. I am His and He is mine, FOREVER.
My need for security demands that I be unconditionally loved, accepted, and cared for from now and forever. God has seen me at my worst and still loved me to the point of giving His life for me. That kind of love I can never lose. I am completely acceptable to him regardless of my behavior.
I am under no pressure to earn or keep His love. My acceptability to God depends only on Jesus’ acceptability to God and on the fact that Jesus’ death counted as full payment for my sins and any and all blunders after that. (John 17.23)
As I mature by developing Christ-like traits, I will enter more and more fully into the security and significance of belonging to and fearing the Lord.
Now that I know this love, I can relax secure in the knowledge that the Eternal God of creation has pledged His infinite power and wisdom to insure my welfare. That is security. Nothing can happen to me that my Loving God doesn't allow. I will experience nothing that He will not enable me to handle. When problems mount and I feel alone, insecure, and afraid, I am to fill my mind with the security-building truth that at this moment a Sovereign, Loving, Personal, Infinite God is absolutely in control. This is not a mind game. God The Spirit is ever living and abiding in the Christian to both enable and assure of the eternal security we have in Christ. He is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it.
But here is the downturn, without God the very best identity that the world can experience to fill the void of significance and security is its substitute: Power and Pleasure.
Instead of significance, we grab power. Instead of security, we grab pleasure. Who among us has not seen the overwhelming display of the pursuit of power and pleasure in our society?
However, there is a law of diminishing returns. This quest for power and pleasure yields less and less return. Soon, culture bottoms out and its final state is Violence and Immorality. Violence and Immorality is the devils substitute for Significance and Security which can only be filled in our identity in Christ.
Today, our society is at home, now, in this basement level state of the soul. This is God’s judgment against those who have suppressed the Truth in unrighteousness.
So, here we are in the greatest challenge of the age – to address a humanity that God has abandoned. We begin our narrative to this fallen age with their sinful behavior, but we end our address at the core of their being, their identity. It is not enough to tell them what’s wrong, but we must give them what is right. The magnitude of what Christ has supplied far outweighs the dribble they themselves can secure. God reaches the soul that has bottomed out and makes the heart of stone into a heart of flesh.
“But God who is rich in mercy, out of the great love with which has loved us, even when we dead through our trespasses, made us alive with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and made us sit with Him in the heavenly the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the coming ages He might the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been save by grace, and this is not of your own doing, it is the gift of God – not because of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” (Eph 2.4-10)
Who would not want this!?
