WE ARE MIRRORS
If you could be anything that you wanted to be…what would it be?
What has God made us to be?
Gen 1.26-27
Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness”…God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
So, what are we?
We are image bearers.
There is another word we can use, too. MIRRORS!
What do mirrors do?
They reflect an image. But this mirror is different than most. It only reflects the image that is in me.
What image does God want us to reflect?
We were designed to image our Creator
What should we look like when we reflect Jesus?
Our heart should look like His heart. When people look at us and see us behave, they should be seeing how Jesus would behave.
We should be filled with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
We should not be desiring (reflecting) what we want, but what He wants.
All our passions and all our desires are just like His and are reflected from our mirror to others. (Gal 5.22-24)
How do we start to look like our Creator?
We image or reflect what we worship
We must worship Him. We are always going to look like what we desire…so, why don’t we just desire HIM? We would then look like Jesus who created us in all our desires, aspiration, attitudes and behaviors.
Desire to be in His image not our own.
How do we do this?
By Trusting and obeying Him.
How do we trust Him?
We must BEHOLD Him. We look to Him, adore Him, learn from Him and consume His Word. We can’t trust someone we don’t know.
2 Cor 3.18
But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.
When we BEHOLD Him, we reflect Him like a mirror.
Isa 58.2
“…seek Me day by day and delight to know My ways,
They delight in the nearness of God.
WHAT DO I WORSHIP?
*What is most valuable to me?
*What do I hold to be most irreplaceable?
*What would I be lost without? (things, habits and vices?)
*What do I think of with most intensity in the long stretches of my
thoughts?
*What is my incentive for living?
*What gives my work and my life meaning and purpose?
THIS I WORSHIP.
There is a warning about being the special kind of mirrors that we are:
When we worship the creation, and not Jesus, we begin to look like the image that we adore most. When we look at and desire this fallen world, we reflect it – we look like it.
We will always look like what we most adore whether for restoration or ruin.
Remember, we are mirrors that reflect what we most love. What we love, we will become.
